Solar Eclipse Ifrit

Just finished work on this piece. This is my future character for a TRPG, an ex-paladin, that didn't really abandon the ideals of the deity she follows, but found her own way to pursue her goals. She is also a solar ifrit (a variant that was introduced in Pathfinder, my tabletop of choice), but I decided to forgo the source description in favour of a more vibrant and stark appearance. As she comes from the lands conquered by shadows, she is "eclipsed": her hair starts glowing on the ends only, most of the light comes from her eyes. Lava and rock didn't seem right for the idea either, so I went with amber for her skin.
- The woman in one of the reference pictures is Luiza of Vivien's Models. I also referenced a photograph of an eagle by F. Wilson and several pictures of museum exhibits.

Here are some stages the drawing went through. I started with the central figure, not copying the reference picture exactly (model's face is lovely, but my goal was not to depict her), using it more for laying down the major features.

I use reference pictures extensively to make everything look more realistic. In some cases, I sample the colours from them.

Whenever there's a need to add an objest to a completed background, I usually put isolate the area by painting it one colour, then incorporate the finished object.
